Founded by an Olympian & a Psychology Educator
In 2011, Olympian Adam Goucher and educator Tim Catalano teamed up to write the bestselling book Running The Edge.
The book’s mix of personal stories, practical running advice, and motivation to push your own potential made it a bestseller — and pretty soon, Tim and Adam found themselves speaking to audiences all over the country to share the transformational power of running.
Less than three years later, they began producing fitness challenges to help even more people find success, motivation, and fulfillment.
These days, you can find Tim and Adam going head-to-head and racking up miles in the Amerithon challenge… or just hanging around the office in search of snacks.

Taya is an avid runner who also enjoys a good game of Frisbee. She’s fast, friendly, and a fierce defender of the office from UPS trucks and squirrels.
Taya’s important work at Run The Edge includes 1) greeting everyone with a toothy smile followed by a sneeze, and 2) being a reason for the rest of us to go on walks. She’s also participating in the Run The Year 2021 Challenge with her mom and dad.
Favorite Food: WOW! Are you asking me to pick a single dish? I am French, you know! If I really had to eat it daily for the rest of my life, maybe because I crashed on a deserted island...it would be: BREAD! Nothing is better than bread! Apples are close behind, though.
Shoe Size: For regular shoes, it's 9.5. For running shoes, it's 10...cause my dogs like a bit of wiggle room when I make them run.
Claim to Fame: I jumped on the Internet bandwagon when it was something academicians and researchers used to communicate across continents. So, really, it was not a bandwagon at that time! Maybe a small buggy. All I know is that it changed my life.
People often wonder what makes me tick. I think it's curiosity and the vast ocean of knowledge I often peer into, not knowing if I should swim so far away from shore...where I play with my sand toys. But, honestly, from an early age, I have been curious about so many things...and occasionally obsessive about some things.
So, yes, I think this is what defines the essence of who I am.
Otherwise, I have worked in Computer Science and Software Engineering for most of my career. Due to my fortuitous involvement with that Internet thing, I also developed a passion for networking and network programming.
Of course, I like the outdoors, running, eating delicious foods, traveling, reading, watching movies, photography, electronics, space exploration, statistics, MUSIC, wine, tall places, underground places, oceans, wildlife, etc.
And I love my family above ALL.
Favorite Food: Brunch. All of it.

Adam’s long running career includes multiple national championships at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. He made the U.S.A. Olympic team in the 5000 Meters in 2000, finishing 11th in the world that year. His lifetime bests include times of 3 minutes, 54 seconds in the mile and 13 minutes, 10 seconds in the 5K.
Adam’s passion for running is tied to his lifelong pursuit of becoming a better husband, father, and friend. As the co-author of Running The Edge and co-founder of Run The Edge, he’s grateful to be able to share what he’s learned with the RTE community.
Favorite Food: Chicken Wings (shout out to Lulu's in Louisville)
Shoe size: 10.5 Wide (flat feet, no arches)
Claim to Fame:He would have to say his Last Name (VAIL), but it really is only cool in Colorado and really hasn't gotten him anywhere or anything...there was this one time when he was 10 years old and he got a free t-shirt at a local shop in the Vail village.
Brian graduated from DU (the University of Denver) where his focus was on Marketing and Management. He ended up getting a minor in Statistics as he always liked trends and data (typical Marketer). He played baseball in college and he must really have like it as thirty years later he is still playing and coaching competitively.
He is originally a SoCal boy, growing up surfing and hanging at the beach as much as possible. But, after he moved to Colorado, the lifestyle got its hooks in him because he never looked back. He has truly embraced all that Colorado has to offer because now he loves to bike, hike, camp, run, ski and listen to live local music on a sunny patio with a microbrew in hand.
Brian participated in his first virtual challenge way back in 2000 where he and his good friend from high school (who lived 1,500 miles away) decided to do an Ironman. For 2 years they shared training schedules, tips, bad days, coaching and even met in a central location a few times to do a marathon or a triathlon. In November 2002 he and his friend Paul, completed his first (and last) Ironman in Panama City, Florida. Today, he still loves to run but nowhere as fast or as long #oldguysrule. He believes in "achieving a balance in one's life" and feels joining the Run The Edge team will keep him moving forward in that consistently evolving journey.

Growing up a "military brat," she moved all over the world until settling down in Colorado. Though she's not an Olympian, she can be found scrambling around the Foothills and trying to figure out her way around a kettlebell.
